| My Rx-7’s stock interior was quite trashed when I bought the car. I don’t think anyone took care of it, and I’m pretty sure whoever owned it had a regular pastime of rubbing razor blades over it. It’s made even worse by the fact that my car is a ’93, which had a less resiliant interior than the ’94 and up models. In ’93, they made interior pieces out of flimsy plastic (which didn’t change over the years) coated in an even flimsier felt coating (which luckily did).
Regardless, I set about sanding the interior pieces down to repaint them. First, I had to pick up the headlight bracketry, so I snapped a shot of the car:

Afterwards, I collected the mangled interior and began sanding:

The gauge cluster was particularly difficult, because of its shape. It also appeared that someone had managed to scuff the bottom of where the gauge hood overhangs the cluster. Go figure.

After that, I washed the pieces down to remove bits of sanding dust and the like:

Tomorrow, I plan on painting the pieces and finishing them up. |
