| Disassembled and set about cleaning and refinishing the interior. The 1993 model Rx-7 has a different interior coating than the later models. At first, the Mazda had some sort of felt-like interior glued to smooth plastic. The main problem with this was that the interior scratched very easily. For the ’94 model year, they changed the interior for textured plastic, which is far more durable. The pictures on this page are of my slightly scuffed ’93 interior.
I personally feel that the smooth finish of the ’93 interior is more attractive. What I will eventually end up doing is sanding the felt stuff off and simply painting the panels black. They won’t be as durable as the later model panels, but they won’t have the felt stuff to scratch off either.
